Description

Under every aspect of social conventions and constraints from the outside world, we’ve been taught to follow the rules and norms given by society. Especially in East Asian countries, people have to obey their parents' arrangements, choose majors, pursue careers, get married, and eventually be perfect and successful people. This girl has an invisible helmet over her head that limits the choices that she should have.
She initially considers the helmet as protection, until a gusting wind accidentally lifts the helmet, making her frightened and feeling at a loss. But gradually, her different and potential selves attract her attention. The lab coat and helmet no longer bind her. However, the outer voices (from East Asian parents’ expectations and judgments) keep covering her own inner voices and disturbing her inner peace. Her voice of getting out overwhelms all the restrictions imposed on her. Rather than struggle or doubt, she decides to break through. This series of photos shows the process of the girl’s self-discovery, struggles, and revolt against the outside world, and she bravely embraces the free life she desires.
